Hi there! I’m Giselle, the creator behind Schoolhouse Engage and a current 5th grade teacher in Southern California. I am here to help educators and homeschool families take the guess work out of figuring out how to create fun and engaging lessons that result in true learning.
I’m passionate about creating engaging lessons that foster learning. I believe all children can learn with the right support and encouragement, and I’m excited to share my ideas with you.
About Schoolhouse Engage
I started Schoolhouse Engage in 2021 after a year of distance learning due to Covid. When I returned back to the classroom I felt like I needed something new to refuel my passion for teaching.
That year my district did not adopt a Social Studies curriculum and I truly had nothing to use to teach my lessons. So I started to create Readers Theater based on Social Studies subjects and I share my resources on Teachers Pay Teachers. I now have over 150 resources that I sell to help educators teach Math, Social Studies, Science, and ELD, and bilingual materials as well.
Education and Work Experience
I graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a BA in Spanish and I have a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Chapman University. I also have a Bilingual Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) credential.
My journey as an educator began in 1999 when I first started teaching 3rd grade in a transitional bilingual classroom. Since then I have been a Title 1 Bilingual Resource Teacher supporting English Learners and teachers. I currently teach 5th grade at a Title 1 school and I am trained in Thinking Maps, Language and Literacy Routines, Reading and Literature Project and Irvine Math Project. You can get a peak of my day-to-day instruction by following me on Instagram. I am passionate about teaching and I love being an educator!
I’m a wife and mom to two girls who both attend a Spanish Immersion school. I value bilingualism and multiculturalism, and I can’t get enough of salsa music- I’m known to make people dance with me.
As a family we love to travel and hike (well, at least I do, sometimes I have to drag my kids along ha). We live close to the beach and try to get there from time-to-time.
